What exactly happens is that when you install software, you will be required to select a directory for the software to be stored. When you access that software, new data will have to be written into those files. Hence, if you have a computer game installed and tried saving your progress, the particular program will find that specific directory, saving all information into your hard drive.

For most instances, the process works fine without a glitch. But at times, there might be problems with the directory, hence causing problems such as improper or incomplete installation.

This error also happens when you copy or shift your file to another folder or directory. As such, your system will not be able to detect the files and assumes that the required files/ folders are missing.

Despite this, there is still hope as solving Runtime Error 76 is not at all difficult. Search the internet for patches relevant to the software which you are trying to run.

In most instances, these would be available to help you fix the program. You can do so by visiting the software manufacturer’s website and download these patches or downloads. Otherwise, you could simply do a software upgrade to the affected software which you are trying to run.
